My Favorite Figma Plugins

Hi friends!

I mentioned in my first article that the primary focus of this account would be UI/UX so here is my first official design-related post (I gave up on the Java series after day 1 LOL).

Anyway.

For the most part of design journey, I’ve been using Adobe XD and as much as I will always be an Adobe fangirl (this sounds terrible), I had to switch over to Figma for a couple of reasons. The major reason being the sharing feature as I am currently working on a project for a startup and other team members need to have access to my designs.

Disclaimer: I’ve only been using Figma properly for about a week give or take so I have not explored that many plugins just yet.

All installed plugins

The highlighted part of the screenshot above shows all the plugins I have installed. They are: Content Reel, Iconify, Unsplash, Font Replacer, Humaans for Figma, Better Font Picker, Artboard Studio Mockups, Text Edit, Illustrations & Blush.

My Top Three

I have pretty much played around with all ten plugins and in no particular order, here is my top three:

1. Iconify

Instead of having to download PNGs of icons, the Iconify plugin allows you import icons from an extensive library directly to your Figma window. You also have the option of customizing a good number of the icons to match your design’s theme (highlighted pink in the screenshot on the right).

2. Unsplash

Just like Iconify, the Unsplash plugin allows you import copyright free photos directly from the Unsplash library without the stress of downloading them onto your computer.

3. Artboard Studio Mockups

This is probably my number 1 favorite and that’s because I’d always wondered how designers made clean mockups of their designs and I simply assumed they downloaded device templates and used photoshop or illustrator.

I’m still not sure how everyone creates their mockups but I doubt it gets easier than using the Art Studio Mockups plugin (I’ll write a tutorial on this as soon as I can).

The photo mockup on the right was achieved in Figma using the highlighted template in the screenshot.

Note: Not all mockups are freely available for use.

Honourable mentions: Font Replacer, Better Font Picker, Illustrations .

Conclusion

Plugins are a great way to simplify and speed up your design process. Luckily, the Figma community has a ton of really cool plugins to try!

Have fun & good luck :)
